When is Panhellenic Recruitment?
Fall 2024 formal recruitment will take place August 23-25. The full recruitment schedule can be found in the 2024 Recruitment Guidebook that is available on our website.
When should my child register for recruitment?
Recruitment registration is open from June 1 at 10am to August 23 at 12pm.
How will my child navigate Panhellenic Recruitment?
Your child will not go through recruitment alone! Your child’s recruitment counselor will help them navigate recruitment and be there for support. Recruitment counselors are members of the Panhellenic community that have disaffiliated from their chapters to help your child through recruitment. Your child will be given two recruitment counselors and placed in a recruitment counselor group with other people going through recruitment upon registering.
Is there a grade requirement to go through recruitment?
There is not a grade requirement to register for recruitment. However, your child’s GPA might have an effect on their overall recruitment experience. UMKC Panhellenic has created the following “Grade Zones” to provide a better understanding of how GPA might affect your child’s recruitment.
GREEN ZONE (3.0+): Your child’s chapter options are less likely to be limited.
YELLOW ZONE (2.5 - 2.99): Your child’s chapter options are likely to be limited.
RED ZONE (2.49 and below): Your child’s chapter options are highly likely to be limited.
What is a legacy?
Your child would be considered a legacy of a sorority if a specified relative is a member of that sorority organization. Legacy status varies depending on the sorority. Your child will indicate on their recruitment registration which organizations they are a legacy to.
Will my child be guaranteed a bid to the sorority she is a legacy to?
There is no guarantee your child will receive a bid to a sorority due to their legacy status.
Is my child guaranteed a bid if they go through recruitment?
No. However, a majority of the people participating in recruitment are invited to join a chapter at the end of recruitment. Recruitment is a process of mutual selection; there are various outcomes to this process. A person going through recruitment may voluntarily withdraw themselves from the process even though they have chapters available to attend. Each sorority at UMKC has their own membership criteria, oftentimes governed by their national organization, which they use to aid their selection making. As such, we also have people released from the recruitment process, although this number is relatively low.
What is the cost of joining a sorority?
All detailed financial information can be found on the UMKC Panhellenic website.
